Sam Squire

Joint Regional Rep (Midlands)

I’m Sam, and I’m the Head of Volunteering at Rainbows Hospice for Children & Young People; the only dedicated children’s hospice covering the whole of the East Midlands. I’ve worked in volunteer management for a number of years, and joined HVMN when I moved into the hospice sector in 2023.

I’m a self-confessed volunteering nerd and enjoy keeping up with the latest research and theory, embracing innovation and creativity, and exploring how that can be applied in the real world when working with volunteers. But I’ve found that the work of HVMN goes beyond that; and the support, networking, idea sharing and problem solving is so genuine, and has been a massive help to me.

Julia Lowe

Joint Regional Rep (Midlands)

Julia is a Volunteer Coordinator at Dougie Mac hospice in Stoke on Trent. She is responsible for hospice-based volunteers over two sites that provide services for Children, Young Adults and Adults. She also leads on their busy Corporate Volunteering programme. She has been a member of HVMN since 2023 and has attended two conferences. She is very enthusiastic about collaboration with other Hospice volunteer managers, and the invaluable support membership gives at both in-person and online regional meetings. She has really valued the opportunity to visit other hospices and very much enjoyed welcoming members to the regional meeting at Dougie Mac 2024.
